Simsbury Fly-in

Beautiful weather today so we went to the Simsbury Fly-In. Lots of little planes there, and also a car show. Owen sat in the cockpit of a fighting helicopter. The highlight had to have been seeing the skydivers land right in front of us. Couldn’t help but notice that the grey-haired gentleman came in nice and easy-like.

putting the Farmall to work

I’ve been eyeing some big flat stones that were “lost” in the high grass in the back yard and have been wanting to move them out. We could use a step in the front and one for the barn door. I’d pushed two of them out of the rough and was thinking I’d use a garden tractor to pull them to their final destination, but Joel’s dad came for a visit and suggested using the hydraulic lift on the old Farmall to move them. It worked really well and now I simply have to create a good base and lever them into place. Done and done.

Daytime camping

We made it through the night.

First time camping

Tonight we are in Copake Falls for the kids first camping night other than the backyard.

Slab Sub-Base Prep

We’re in the home stretch of creating a good sub-base for the barn floor. We’re in the final sixth of the barn, and found an old foundation and some ramp that leads deep underground. Nobody can figure out what that would be for, especially since we haven’t excavated the bottom.

Our latest Cub Cadet (”Pow-ey”) has served us well in hauling material out of the barn - not bad for $100! In addition to the estimated 15 tons of concrete, we have a pile of round stones that must weigh at least that much.
