Brooklyn Fair

The Fair Season is somewhere between Summer and Fall, and it’s in full swing. We’ve done the Hamburg. This is the Brooklyn. And next week: the Woodstock.

The rain held off long enough for us to have a good time, catch some rides, eat some corn dogs, and kick butt in the pedal tractor pull. Honestly, we thought that Owen faced some stiff competition from those brawny farm kids, but this contender punches above his weight!

Owen pulled the Eliminator over thirty feet - with fifteen pounds in the basket! He won his age bracket, and Evelyn put in a good pull to finish second. She went twenty-five feet, with an empty basket, but had tough competition herself.

Almost done with removing the existing concrete floor in the barn.

It’s no wonder that the floor was so crappy - it was about 2 1/2″ thick and was poured directly onto dirt. For the most part removal was straightforward, but near the gutters and foundation it was thicker and filled with rocks.

All that is left is removing the pieces broken from the pour that had filled the gutters. I plan on going to Tractor Supply tomorrow to get a hand truck to cart out those chunks, with probably weigh 100 pound each.

Arrived early to avoid the heat. Coupla Scwimmenwagens were already there.

Oops, I did it again

Friday afternoon I checked Craigslist before heading home and saw a Cub Cadet with mower and snow blower for $100. I called the guy up, and after Sue’s OK, I drive out to check it out.

Though he had talked to a guy who wanted him to deliver it, the owner said he hadn’t committed to anyone. And even though it hadn’t run for five years, the engine turned over with compression.

So I paid the c-note and returned the next day with a U-haul trailer. The rental was under $20 and I used it to haul all three Cadets to the car wash for a pressure rinse.

And the new one? It’s a 102 with a narrow frame. It had no spark, so I changed the points and plug, hooked up a voltage regulator, and cleaned as much rust from the gas tank as I could. Didn’t take much to come to life after that!

I had just enough time to take a victory lap of the house before it really started raining.
