Happy Halloween!

Owen and Evelyn are in their Halloween costumes

Halloween decorations at Fairway Drive

This year Owen is a Coast Guard helicopter pilot and Evelyn is Princess Leia (Thankfully, not the Jabba Prisoner Leia, but the kick-ass Episode IV Leia.) As they’ve become older, they are also more bold about trick-or-treating. This year we went to nine houses, though four folks weren’t home and left bowls of candy on their doorstep.

Owen will not be outdone!

Not one to remain in his little sister’s shadow (see below), Owen decided to show what he can do. This handy ramp was ready to go, so he figured, “why not?”

Evelyn can ride a bike, too!

Evie’s been riding that running bike for a while and has become quite the pro. Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to swap a larger bike we had in reserve for one that’s the right size for Evie. Since we were kicked out of the house for a showing (again!) we decided to hang out at the Grand Prix New York parking lot and give ‘er a go.

As you can see, Evie is a total pro. This is the first time on a pedal bike, and the results speak for themselves.

Apple Picking

Picking apples at Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, Conn.

Today was the home inspection for the buyer of our house. Again, we had great weather and decided to pick some apples. Earlier in the week Sue bought some apples at Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, Conn., so we returned for their apple picking.

The orchard also had a pumpkin patch, selling at 49 cents per pound. We picked out a dozen small pumpkins, and when we got home Sue placed them around the tombstones in our front yard.

While in Bethel, we also had lunch at the Sycamore Diner and dessert at the Ferris Creamery, which makes its own ice cream and is almost closed for the season.

Hiking in Muscoot

Evie and Owen in the back woods

Since it was a beautiful fall day - and (again) we had to get out of the house for some showings - we decided to pack some sandwiches and hit the trail at Muscoot.

It turns out to have been a busy day - along with the Farmers’ Market, the farm was also running hayrides and had opened a pumpkin patch. There were lots of folks on the grounds, but only one other family along the trails.

We found a nice outcropping in the woods to have our lunch, then headed back down the hill toward home.
