Finally, a little bit of snow.

Owen on the saucerEvie on the sled

Owen didn’t have school the week of President’s Day, so we went to visit Grams and Gramps. After a few days there, we went to a sister-in-law’s sister’s farmhouse in Vermont, where there was plenty of snow and a slight hill perfect for sledding. When we came home, there was enough snow that we went to a larger hill at Leonard Park. We went sledding Sunday morning before the sun had time to melt the snow and slow down the runs - and before the crowds showed up.

Owen reads!

Owen took a stab at reading last night and read the Go Dog Go board book (which is completely different than Go Dog Go) and he did a super job. So tonight he read it again and then tried to read Hop on Pop and again did an amazing job. We are really proud that he wants to try reading and that he’s not getting too frustrated, despite having the typical difficulties sounding out words.

huisje

I received two little house (huisje) kits for Christmas from my brother. They are brick houses that you build using mortar and a trowel. Owen and I built this one together and once we figured out the directions—which were only in Dutch—then it went quickly. However in my haste to build it before the cement set up I didn’t follow the directions closely and had to rebuild the side window so it got a little messy. The cool thing about the kit is that you can soak the house in water and the mortar will dissolve so you can build it again with the extra mortar packets that come with.
