Planter

imageLast Saturday, as a Mothers’ Day gift for Sue, Sue, Rick & I spent the day building a planter for our back yard. It’s no ordinary planter – it’s 4 feet wide and 8 feet long, and stands about a yard high. There’s about 18 inches of topsoil, mulch, peat moss, and manure, so it should be robust enough for Sue to do some actual vegetable gardening. It’s made of scaffolding planks and should last a good number of years, though I’m a bit worried that I may have under-engineered the bottom so I will have to shore it up this weekend. Sue coated it with linseed oil to help its longevity, and to give it a golden hue.Sue planted tomatoes, peppers, and beans. The plants have been suffering in their tiny containers for a week; hopefully they’ll recover.
