I was walking to the kitchen through the dining room and something large and tawny caught my eye outside. It was a huge hawk sitting just a couple of feet from the feeder and the deck. I tried to get a better picture but I scared it away. From the markings it looks like an immature redtail hawk, which might account for why it’s hanging out near a feeder.

In addition to the hawk, I recently saw 5 deer in the driveway under the deck eating the shrubs and raccoon tracks in the snow nearby. It’s not as exotic as the fox and bald eagle sightings that we had from the house in Connecticut last winter, but I didn’t think we’d see much.

We decided to open a beer early just to make sure it was indeed beer and that it had carbonated. Supposedly after a week or so the carbonation process is complete and sure enough our beer was pretty good.

Not bad for a first attempt at brewing. (As you can see we also had to have a bottle of Chimay, just in case this one didn’t turn out as planned.) Now we need to start the next batch…
