Visiting the city and country

image imageGram and Grandpa (Rick and Debbie) came down to visit this past weekend. They brought some gifts for Owen from their visit to Holland earlier in the month. Owen got a new pair of shoes and a Maisy sippy cup. They also brought Sue’s old play kitchenette which Owen immediately used to “wash” his hands. We all drove into Manhattan and went to the Met. Owen enjoyed walking through the Oceanic art section as well as stretching his legs near the temple of Dendur. Then we drove down to dinner at Bubby’s inTribeca which was so full of kids the ran out of high chairs.imageOn Sunday we went up to Muscoot Farm, which is a county-run park which had been once been a working farm. They have goat, chickens. turkeys, donkeys, horses, cows, and pigs to seeónot petóand this Sunday they were making maple syrup. Owen really liked seeing the animals so we’ll visit more often, especially once it gets warmer and less muddy.

Giraffe

Owen is starting to climb up on whatever he can, which includes Sue’s old giraffe. The fact that it’s hardly stable with its wheels doesn’t slow him down when there’s stuff to root though.

Smoothies

Owen first had a smoothie at an Indian restaurant months ago and is crazy for them. It was actually a mango lassi and it was also his first time using a straw. Joel brought home mango lassi fixings and let Owen man the controls. He drank so much he hardly had any room for dinner.

Dinosaurs

We went to the city on Sunday to the Museum of Naural History. One of Joel’s perks as a Citibank employee is free admission at many of the cities museums so we decided looking at animals in dioramas and dinosaur bones might be interesting for Owen. He definitely enjoyed the taxidermy and liked seeing all the other other kids. The place was totally packed with strollers and the floors were littered with lost kids’ clothing. And Joel, who rarely sees famous people in NYC, spotted the principal from the TV show “Ed”–the one who Carol was going to marry–in the dinosaur section of the museum.

Owen fell asleep just as we left so Joel and I had a nice easy lunch wih him asleep in the stroller next to us. But he did wake up for the subway ride to Grand Central and the train ride home. Unfortunately we forgot our camera and had to settle for buying a disposable one which sadly yielded very few pictures. (No surprise there.)

Work that spoon

Owen got to lick the mashed potato spoon which was a lot of fun, but he’s also feeding himself with a baby-sized spoon or fork at mealtime. We load up the spoon and pass it to him and he does pretty well getting it into his mouth. It works especially well at breakfast with his daily bowl of oatmeal since that doesn’t roll of the spoon.
