Hit The Road, Starbucks!
Need an alternative to the $4-a-day caffeine habit? Look no further than your grocer’s coffee shelves (maybe near the bottom). There’s nothing wrong with cheap coffee, but there’s plenty wrong with weak coffee. We’ve switched from drip coffee to espresso, almost exclusively. A low-end Krups machine and darkly roasted coffee finely ground is really what gets us up in the dayóeven if it’s 80 percent decaf!
When the bulk coffeesóeven the store brandórun upwards of $7 a pound, there’s little downside in trying something new. The bold, simple design of the Cafe Bustelo vacuum-packed bricks is reason enough to toss one in your cart. There is an honesty (well… an implication of honesty) in the packaging that has been lost by major brands aiming at the broadest common denominator in the supermarket. Good packaging does not a good coffee make, but in this case there is truth in advertising.
Cafe Bustelo is one of the cuban blends from Rowland Coffee Roasters in Miami. They package and distribute about a dozen espresso roasts in both Latin and European blends. Visit their site at http://www.javacabana.comóeven their site is more flavorful than the competition’s. Plus, if you are unable to find their coffee at your local market, you can order it online!
Look for this cheery package!
